Simply Telecom client ESF Helps Belfast City Centre Recharge

BELFAST is charged up with the installation of new solar powered ‘street charge’ units within the grounds of the City Hall.

Provided by Simply Telecom client Environmental Street Furniture (ESF), the two street charge units will enable the public to recharge their mobile phones, tablets and other electrical devices by USB connection if they’re running low while out and about.

Following on from installations at events and venues throughout Europe, including here in Belfast during the Giro D’Italia in 2014, ESF is confident that by partnering with Belfast City Council the units will be a welcome addition to the city centre.

Alan Lowry, managing director ESF said; “We are very excited to have the opportunity to showcase the street charge units at Belfast City Hall. The concept is simple in that it uses sustainable solar power to charge electrical devices and by placing the units in such an accessible and popular space, we envisage that they will be readily used by members of the public.

“We have secured distribution of the street charge units across Europe through an agreement with the New York based designers and in addition to our new installation at Belfast City Hall, we have installed similar units in Prague, Barcelona and Milan.

“It is great to now see the units in Belfast, the city is certainly keeping up with cities across Europe. The street charge units are also designed to complement free Wi-Fi which is provided by Belfast City Council in public areas as part of its Smart Cities programme. We are confident that the units will prove a popular facility to keep our modern technology in operation while using environmentally-conscious power.”

The street charge units are currently a temporary installation and will be available for public use during the City Hall’s opening hours. The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Alderman Brian Kingston commented; “We are committed to sourcing and providing new accessible technology for all to use. The street charge units fall into the Council’s ongoing super connected Belfast scheme which, in addition to providing free Wi-Fi to members of the public, will provide a resource for them to charge their devices as and when required.”

Now exporting to twenty countries including the Middle East, USA and Australia, ESF has seen significant growth in terms of the products it supplies to an international market. The company has successfully developed from servicing the local market with street furniture to diversifying its products utilising solar and innovative technology.

Based in Newtownabbey and founded in 2012 by Alan and Caroline Lowry, ESF designs and supplies a huge selection of exterior street furniture products globally, including custom bespoke products for the experience attraction theme park industry.

In addition to designing and supplying themed street furniture to the global Experience Attractions market, ESF is also at the forefront of innovation offering a range of solar powered products including the street charge units, solar powered benches, illuminated litter bins using LED lighting, and solar LED wayfinding lighting.
